Another possibly stupid question..

I hadn't thought of this till now, but if I'm installing a receiver that's bluetooth enabled will I have to use the provided microphone for cellphone conversations or is that what the mini 1/8" jack on the Metra Axxes SWI is for?

The Axxess ASWC doesn't do anything with the microphone.

Some cheap units have built-in microphones, but most will include an external mic you run yourself.

If your car had factory bluetooth, you can theoretically re-use the factory mic, but you'll have to splice the wires into the mic wire/jack from the headunit's microphone.

Also if you had factory bluetooth, you have to bypass the factory bluetooth box for the steering wheel controls to function through the Axxess ASWC.

Does that mean I should've got the PAC SWI?

Negative Top, you definitely got the right unit, the PAC unit is inferior to the Metra unit (hard to believe, right? Lol)

Nope, the problem is with the factory bluetooth unit, since it is given first priority on steering wheel signals, so you have to change that by wiring around it.

Okay. I totally overlooked this. How do I wire around it?

The telephone adapter is in the trunk, driver's side on the floor.

There's the large harness going into the telephone adapter in the trunk. In the very center are a green and red wire with a yellow right next to them. There is also green and red and yellow wires just to the side of the center. Connect the red to the red and the green to the green and yellow to yellow.

That's it.

Okay awesome. I've been noticing that my phone and receiver disconnect from bluetooth here and there - do you think this could be contributing to it? I guess we'll see as soon as I'm done..

Wrathernaut, it looks like these are the first 3 wires you are referring to. Just double checking.

Hmmmm.. This is what I did

I don't think I did it correctly. Now the left-hand steering wheel controls don't work at all. Please advise.

It looks correct from here - can you show your connections and where you've grounded the yellow wire at the back of the radio?

I'll be pulling the radio again when I finish the backup camera install so I'll snap a few pictures then. But I grounded everything from the back of the radio to the same 10mm bolt. Its one of the 4 around the shifter ring - I used the bolt in the 10 o'clock position.

Yes, bypassing the factory bluetooth adapter lets you use the buttons on the steering wheel for whatever you want that the radio supports.
