guys... What are some good differential oil brands?? And I believe 75w-90 is good for a 5AT. And how many quarts will be needed?

For the rear diff, Amsoil 75w90. You'll need to buy 2 quarts but you only need a little more than 1.5 qts.

Always use ATF in an automatic!! ATF is more like hydraulic fluid than oil so don't use 75w-90 oil in yur 5AT. manual says 80-w90 for read diff

Well I screwed this up I was having slight grinding when entering 2nd, 3rd, and 5th when shifting at high rpm's or quick shifting.

So instead of taking it to the dealer to have them inspect and repair or replace the trans. I though I'd try something myself.

So I put in a fluid that everyone swears by on my other forum for my FWD Nissan and it worked magic. after two weeks of driving I can't make it grind at all into any gear, and the gears feel like they are coated in butter they just feel like they want to go into gear...

The Oil I am referring to is BG Products Sycroshift II It can be found in some NAPA stores and on line of course. is the most common place people get it from but since I was in the northeast when I needed it I got mine from they are in NJ. and shipping was not cheaper than expected but it was fast I got it the next day.

I am thinking of putting regular nissan oil back in and seeing if the grinding comes back and get the new tranny and then put the BG SSII in the new trans but we'll see. oh BTW I use this in my other Nissan too and I love it. and everyone you ask on will agree with me that BG SSII is the best oil out there. people have tried the redline and the royal purple but most of them come back to the BG SSII. Oh and another thing if you get it from Burschur racing their sit says it's only for the EVO but that is because they cater mainly to the Mitsu crowd...

Just from my experience with my FWD Nissan I would not use Royal Purple even If I was sponsored by them, when in my other car It felt like it had sludge in the gearbox and trans axle, my millage dropped and when put into neutral to coast it felt like the brakes were dragging...

The OP stated 3.25 quarts for ATF while bythebay and infinitihelp stated 4 quarts. Can anyone confirm which is the correct number? I don't have the car manual to look.

Don't put ATF in a MT car! If you have an auto then I would let the dealer flush your ATF fluid. You can really damage the tranny if you don't have the right equipment. If you have an MT then you need to buy 4 quarts of fluid. You will only use about 3.5 or so, and spill about 1/4 of a quart. When the transmission is full you will know, the fluid will start leaking out of the drain hole. It's an easy job, just a bit messy.

Royal Purple Max Gear Oil - 5 Qts Total of 75w90 for MT and Diff

I had great success with Royal Purple oil in my Spec-V Sentra 6sp MT.

I think I will just pick up 5 quarts of the Royal Purple MaxGear 75w90 for changing out the MT fluid and Rear Diff fluid on my 6MT G35 Sedan.

It is offered in a 80W90 viscosity as recommended for the diff, but that is only available in 5 gallon quantities. So I will use the 75w90 all around.

Max-Gear® exceeds Eaton’s stringent GL-5 / MIL-L-2105D
Gear Oil Specs. Max-Gear® also is safe for GL-4 applications
or bronze synchro gears.

Max-Gear® is recommended for use in truck and automotive
differentials, rear axles, or manual transmissions requiring an API GL-5 or
GL-4 fluid. Max-Gear® is suitable for use in Limited Slip /
Positrac applications.

Anybody have any major concerns about this?

I don't understand why the rear differential oil would be different for the 6MT/5AT...?

I can understand the tranny fluids being different but not the rear diff....help?

use 80W-90 gear oil in the rear diff. doesn't matter what kind of tranny you have
