Sigh, this really sucks to be joining the oil burning club. I just did my oil last night, after 4700 miles I only drained about 2quarts, maybe less. I'll be keeping a closer watch from here on out, but this is really depressing. Btw, I have a 2005 6MT. The only mod is the Z-tube and K&N, though I highly doubt those things have any effect.

I'm done!!! I have an '06 6MT with less than 19K. So far I've had two tranny's, a drive shaft, a BCM Board and now learned that I'll go through 4 quarts of oil every 1000K. Almost learned the hard way to boot!!! Didn't find that little gem out until I took my car in because of knocking noises - dealer checked the oil and basically told me I was nearly empty. I hate to say this but I regret dropping 60 grand on the G. Looking at the BMW 335 or the Audi S4.

2005 6mt Coupe, engine went last nite when driving on the freeway to the movies. Now my engine sounds like loud rock band playing nothing but heavy metal. It sucks, will be calling the dealership on Monday and having it tow. Wish me luck.

Me too!!

Ok, here's my story. I too am a member of the oil burner club. I have a 2005
6MT with 9000 miles on the clock. At first, I rarely drove the car because I was stationed on a ship and was gone quite a bit. Now, I'm at a new duty station and have more time to drive the G. Its not my daily driver but I've been driving it nearly every day to catch up on the joys of driving this vehicle. I just checked my oil and discovered that there was only about a 1/4 of an inch showing on the very bottom of the dip stick. I was horrified that my car was experiencing what I had been reading about on here. I added 2 quarts of Mobil One and its still at the 1/2 way mark. There must have only been about 2 quarts left in the pan. I never had the oil pressure light come on, so I'm hoping no damage was done intenally due to the low oil level. I had been driving mildly, but I have been getting on it once and a while. Also, this was the first run of synthetic oil in it. The dealership will most likely give me grief because I do my own oil changes and don't have the receipts. The dealer can't get me in until the 27th!! Luckily, I have a daily driver. This really sucks because I did a ton of research before buying this car. One of the main reasons I was attracted to this vehicle was the fact that the VQ was supposed to be practically bullet proof. This is very disturbing and I am contemplating trading the car in on an S2000 before I have to go through all the engine replacement junk. At least Hondas are bullet proof.

2003 Sedan 5AT wifes car, never had an oil problem I use about 3/4 between 5000mi interval oil changes. I use only Mobil 1 oil and filters and schooled my wife on a 1 min warm up and easy driving until the temp comes compleatly up. most new cars have low tension rings to help gas mileage but they will also allow more oil consumption, [COLOR="Red"]the real issue I have with the VQ is how difficult Nissan made the damn dipstick to read in the VQ's,My X wife has a 2003 Maxima hers seems to use slightly more oil but the real problem has always been trying to interpet the oil level on the dipstick.

My X's 03 Maxima sounded like that after the dealer replaced both timing chain sprokets after compleating a TSB for pinging towed it back to the dealer of course the car ran fine for the dealer, and has ever since ?

for those of you with excessive oil consumption, did you guys experience "service engine soon" ?

also how many of you guys got $$$hit from the dealership for having modded your car when you took it in for excessive oil consumption?

Remember you are required to maintain full oil level until your engine is declared defective by the consumption test.

Check your oil every 500 miles or so [add as necessary] otherwise you might run low and increase wear and not find the problems until after the 70k warranty expires.

It appears the problems are around 1 in 500 engines..........2,000 defects isn't much for such a stressed engine.........unless YOU get one!

Engines aren't stressed unless the driver stresses them.

same oil problem

my 05'MT looses oil really quikly. Its been two or three times now that i've taken it early to the dealer because the engine starts rattling really loud that it even makes it difficult to drive. When i went in they said the Engine had no oil. There was a time when dash warning light started to light up. I talk to someone in service and they said that Infinity is aware of the problem and is trying to find a solution. Now i'm suppost to take it in avery 3000 miles, instead of the 4000 miles that i had before, for service. They said that if anything happens i might just get a new car, to not worrie about it.

Wow...if I were you, I'd take it back every 1000 for the Dealer to check the oil level and start the consumption test with them. The rattling noise you've been hearing is the engine starving for oil....not good.

Doubt you'll get a new car. Most likely a new engine if you've been following the other post 'everyone check your oil' http://rupromenergo.ru/forums/g-spot/110973-everyone-check-your-oil.html

Its funny because at the beginning when i started noticing the problem i took the car to the dealer and they said it was normal for the car to burn oil like it was. Its was funny to hear them say that, thats when i started to do a little research on the problem. The car is still on warranty and now wonder if i should just wait for the engine to go bad or if i can ask for a trade...

for those who are changing their own oil and documenting only seeing 2 QTs drain out...

will they still honor your warantee even though you change your own oil?

I thought that you had to have it changed by a dealership or oil change shop and have it documented or stamped..??

I'm sitting at 1600 miles and want to make sure I cover my own butt

I would above all prefer to do my own oil changes, but if I have to take it in to maintain my warantee I will.
