As long as you keep your oil and filter purchase receipts, they should still honor the warranty.

If you think you have an oil burning problem, though, you have to take it to a dealer to have an Oil Consumption Test done. From what I've read, they will fill the car with the proper amount of oil and "seal" the dipstick and drain plug to prevent tampering. You will then drive for a predetermined mileage and bring the car back for them to see how much oil is left.

had this done at the dealer, they say i'm burning 3/16ths of a quart in 1000 miles and that's ok. Oh well, I guess that's a quart or 2 every oil change. Is it ok if I switch back to synthetic blend if I've gone from blend to syntehtic for about 6000 miles?

I am scheduled next week for an oil consumption test. I burn about 1QT every 1000 miles. The person at the Infiniti dealer told me to come in for the "oil consumption test" so I'm wondering how common this all is. I don't drive the car hard, I mostly drive it 1-2 times a week to work and on the weekends with the kids.

I first time I noticed this issue was when my car started making the "engine gone wrong" clanking sounds. After adding oil, it seems to be working ok. I don't expect the car to last long with this issue but I've been really watching the oil.

My BIG question:

I have the following engine/exhaust mods on my car:

MREV2, Stillen intake, carbon Z-tube, 5/16 spacer, stillen damper & intimidator exhaust.

What if anything should I revert back to stock?

Thanks!

Some Dealers are okay with mods, some not.
If it were me, I'd take the MREV2 off. It is actually for off-road use, meaning it's really not legal for the streets and you might get hassled about that.
But again, some Dealers don't care about that mod. Your other mods I'd say your ok with those, imo.

response to 2 posts above... based on the poll it looks like it's pretty common with 05 & 06 MT (which you have)... as far as what mods to revert to stock - I would go entirely back to stock just to be on the safe side... Most people will tell you they have to prove that the mod caused the problem, and with the problem so common itís not likely to be caused by your mods - but I would rather cut through the BS with the dealer & manufacturer so if it were me I'd go bone stock till the tests are conclusive.

BTW, I have all the normal mods like you and my dealer has absolutely no problem with them... however you might be looking at a major warranty issue so better to be safe then sorry.

Just my .02

Not sure if it was in this thread, but I read this problem seems to be related to the 298 Revup motor (might have that wrong). Did Infinity change the motor later in '06?

It's not your driving style. It's a case of a manufacturer putting out a defective product and instead of issuing a recall (for whatever reason), they are relying on the consumer to deal with it.

Can you identify the MREV2 by looking at it? I couldn't easily tell the difference between stock and the MREV2 when it was installed. I've had 1 oil change at the dealership since installation and they didn't say anything about the spacer but did say the intake & exhaust was nice.

I am not sure I want to remove the parts because I will have to pay for removal & re-install. Also, if they try to deny warranty to me I would get a lawyer and pursue this. I don't want to set myself up for a hassle but I would stick with it for a $38K MSRP vehicle with only 6000 miles on it.

Remove & replace MREV + Spacer could cost me a few hundred bucks easy. Not sure what to do here...better safe than sorry I agree.

The bottom end of the VQ suffers from high crank case pressure -- which pushes into the head and cam area -- also has high vacuum which sucks the oil through the vent tube back through the intake to be burned... this is magnified at high RPM which the REVUP is good at. I am tired of the consumption and am starting the tear down of my motor on Monday for a complete buildup. Get some quality products in there so I can stop worrying.

The results really are biased. If you can include users without a problem to compare to the ones with a problem you would have much better results.
