Oil Cooler O-Ring???

So I took my car in today for service (an oil change, and the fuel filler recall) and they mentioned that my "oil cooler o-ring" was leaking.

When I asked where it was located he said it was near the oil filter or in the housing. It really did not make sense at all to me as typically oil coolers are external and use hoses, right?

Regardless, what on earth could this guy be talking about? He mentioned an o-ring around the oil filter, if that helps at all.

I've noticed a small oil leak, not sure where it's coming from but I imagine it should be this...

Thanks for the input!

There's a "lame" cooler/warmer thing on the older VQ engines that looks like a sandwich plate between the oil pan and oil filter. It's discussed ad nauseum here:

It has been determined to be an unnecessary item. Anyway, here's a picture of where it is:

Could it be leaking? Yes, your #4 might have corroded.

Thanks for the pics guys, I think I've got an idea of what needs to be replaced.

It sounds like $175 is a little high to remove one bolt and slap a new o-ring on there so I may just do it myself as I have had some slight oil leaking lately.

Sounds like another DIY. Thanks for the help

Ok... since it was time to change the oil again I went ahead and took care of this o-ring. I must say it was a piece of cake.

Once I got the filter off I unbolted the connector bolt and the oil cooler came loose and the o-ring fell right out. I put the new o-ring on and tightened the connector bolt then finished my oil change.

It took MAYBE an extra 5 minutes to change this out. It was extremely simple.

One thing I noticed while I was under there was one of the hoses that goes to the oil cooler is rubbing on the oil pan... I think it will eventually cause a leak so I'll be looking at a fix for that next time.

Thanks for all the help
