Exclamation The last year of the g35, 2007 COUPE, does it have 298 hp? or 306hp?

I've read two different accounts, that they boosted up hp before deciding to scrap the car for the g37, the other is that they kept it the same.

Which is the real spec? Thanks.

....also if max hp is at 6400 rpm, why the hell does it have a 7000rpm redline, and a 7500 rpm rev limiter?? It would make me think shifting should be at about 7200rpm. When is proper time to shift??

298 for the coupe and 306 for the sedan.

The HP from 6400rpm - redline is much higher than the HP at the rev range you're at after you shift, even though the power is going down.

That just doesn't make sense to me. Red line should be put right near max hp, and the rev limiter not too far after.

I think max hp is at 6800 rpm, not the 6400 rpm people think. Six hundred more rpm.... for what?! If you hit max hp, it's time to shift.

I read 2007, and 2007 only, has 306 hp at 6800 rpms. Which works out almost perfectly, since redline is only 200 rpm away from that. Rev limiter is still a tad high however, but thats fine.

This is off of cars.com:

Going & Stopping
Though it's still a 3.5-liter V-6, the 2007 G35's engine is 80 percent new, Infiniti says. For 2007, manual and automatic models use the same engine; previously, the automatic got less power, as shown below. Compared to the more-powerful 2006 engine, in the manual G35, output has increased by 8 horsepower and 8 pounds-feet of torque. But if you look closely, the specs reflect a change in power delivery.

That shows both engines were used on both vehicles, not coupe being better than sedan, or sedan being better than coupe, but both the same. Why would they jsut update the g35 sedan anyway since that would be getting scrapped as well. I think the 37's were a last minute decision, so thats why 07 35's had increased power numbers.

And again max hp should never be 600 rpm before redline, 200 yes, 600....no.

this is false. Where to shift depends on where on the powerband you will land after the shift. You have to compute the decrease in torque multiplication in a higher gear, and decide if the effective power output is better in the lower gear with decreasing hp or if being in the higher gear at a lower point in the power curve will yield more power

Right and thats why redline probably goes up to 7500 rpm. But we're talking about workable rpm range, before redline. Engineers don't have max hp 600 rpms before redline, they just don't! Atleast on the engine's I've driven.

I think 07 coupe's have 306hp. It was a shady year, I'm sure they weren't thinking of making g37's until very late in the reasoning process.

Chances are they might have even just 'said' it only still produces 298hp 6400rpms when it really was pushing out 306hp at 6800rpms.

There's plenty of auto manufacturer's out there who don't feel like giving the true numbers for one reason or another.

Max hp at 6400 rpms, and I'd have said redline was either 6500 to 6800 rpms. With max hp at 6800 rpms, I'm going to have to say redline is at 6900 to 7100 rpms.

Just having some conversation.

Redline has nothing to do with power. It has to do with where the manufacturer wants to limit engine speed to avoid component failure. From a power output perspective, redline is completely arbitrary.

So with rpm's having 600rpm grace past max hp, and a rev limiter of 7500. There must be some really robust internals in the engine, that I'm not used to seeing.

I shift between 7200 and 7400. I set the shift light to 7300.

Damn almost 1000 rpms away from max hp, really makes my mind boggle.

Just as a reference, in 2006 RSX it was stated to have 155 hp, when it was really 160hp. (Type S has 210, but was stated to only have 201!) So it's possible the last 35 coupe could have been tweaked without trying to tell anyone.

Where do the auto's shift in reference to red line? Right at red don't they?
