VQ37VHR first gen G35?

GTM said that the VQ37VHR drivetrain and powertrain bolts up to first gen G35s and the wiring is for the most part is plugnplay with only a few changes in the wiring harness to make it all work.

There is also a rumor that the VQ37 can be stroked to 4.7 liters vs the 4.2 liters VQ35s. And there is also talk that a 4.7 liter VQ37 can deliver ~450+HP at
the wheels naturally aspired.

Has anyone so far with a first gen swapped in the VQ37VHR?

Everything I have heard said it didn't bolt up? This is the first I've heard that an HR can bolt into a first gen G.

GTM is offering the swap service for $5100+ not including the powertrain and drivetrain which runs $3-4k used.

Wow, that's not bad at all. As long as they are fabricating the mounts and whatever it might need that could be very cool!

To my knowledge, nobody has put a 37HR in a first gen Z or G.

You considering doing it?

Every accessory on the HR engine is in a different location. Nissan sport magazine is doing a VQ35HR swap in a DE right now, it's a pain for them but the only reason they are doing it is because it allows them to stay in their current stock class and to be more competitive against the GXP and other cars.

For that money, why not just do a good turbo kit. Yes it has more potential but the 35 has a ton of potential too.

That is true. The orginal is just as good as the current variant when it comes to potential but the VQ37 does deliver more at lower boost levels. There is also the power to weight ration which will be better compared to the G37.

The thing is that if all goes well for me and the shop where I had my exhaust done I can swap it in myself with very little money.

I decided that it is something to look into. It's not a bad price considering some people spend that money on brakes or a suspension setup.

Would the stock hood even close with an HR engine?

Sure, the drive train should bolt up, but the ECU and main harness has got to be significantly different. Guess GTM must have it all figured out.

The main wiring harness does need to be changed and the ECU as well. It's easier on an MT rather than a AT. Both the harness and ECU is readily available since the G37 coupe debuted some time ago.

They didn't change the ECU?

I guess because it's 6sp to 6sp there isn't much to change, but the ATs are 5sp to 7sp... so little more work.

Here it is.

We will be charging $5450 for the swap, this will cover the removel and reinstall of the engine with the wiring work needed. This amount is only for labor, parts are not included .

I understand and I agree that the VVEL is the future and you can't beat having the perfect cam timing all the time, and that is why the 370z does so well out the box.

Now, installing the VHR engine in different platform is doable, And acutely it is getting easier to do everyday, since we are depending more and more on the factory ECU to tune these cars, the one thing is finding a VHR engine cheap enough to make this more cost effective, Over a year and half ago when the G37 wasn't even out yet, we paid over 8K just for the VVEL engine (complete crate engine from Nissan ) so we can start our R&D. I'm sure there are more VVEL engine available right now for a lot cheaper.

My favorite swap will be putting the new VVEL V8 engine in a 350z. I think That's alot of fun.
