Kinetix plenum..yes or no??

So i was ready to buy a spacer and i called my local shop that specializes in Z's and G's and spoke directly with the tuner..he tells me the new composite Kinetix plenum shows the best results on the dyno compared to spacers. After doing some searching seems like alot of you dont like Kinetix products, I havent seen anyone directly bash the Kinetix plenum so im wondering if its ok to buy based on what my local tuner says. what you guys think?? just get a spacer or what!!

edit: btw hes not selling me the part its just what he recomends since he does the dyno tuning and what he's experienced

Cost of Plenum vs Spacer = get a spacer. ****Edit*** The price seems to only be $60-80 more for the kinetix so thats not too bad I guess if you like the look of the Kinetix go that way, some built engine TT guys still use a spacer so I doubt either has a large performance advantage.

depends on if you're a rev up or not also. i believe, the manifold will only yield a couple more hp over the spacer itself....so the cost per hp; spacer is the way to go. and idk if the spacer and manifold is worth it or not on a non-revup. or you can just go ssv?

I had the same dilemma and chose the Kinetix Plenum V+, which only cost $15 more than the spacer. I cannot justify spending $200+ for a plenum spacer (a freaking metal gasket!), when i can purchase the entire plenum for $15 more.

imo and experience and what was told directly from talking to both vendors directly was...that the spacer is good but if you are going to get the copper that is really only useful if you live in cold weather. Kinetix is always better when it goes F/I that you will see more gains. Kinetix lastest version of the Kinetix manifold was more focused on the N/A this time around. hope this helps some

did your shop give you reference material other than just "saying so"?...

If not - here's a very controlled comparison by an extremely trusted source:

Not to mention dozens of testimonial on this (and other) forum...

So without having your shop give you more solid data - I'd go with the info that does have solid data.

*BTW - for all those that always state "get the 5/16" it has better area under the curve, better mid", etc... The majority of you have never even read the data - you just repeat what you've heard... take a look at the plenum shootout (the same one MD uses)... the 5/16" was marginal better (not even enough to make a decision from) in a couple areas in mid rpm - but not as much as the 1/2" is in the higher rmp... IOW, you dont gain enough down low and in mid to justify getting it over the 1/2".

awesome pdf!

makes me want to get a rev up lower plenum, i mean assuming that those test results can be reproduced. hopefully someone else tried it out and it worked out good, cause that'd be weird that the opposite manifolds are more beneficial on the 2 generations of the vq35de.

any takes?

if you're talking about a non-revup lower collector on a rev up engine - yes its a well known fact and has been reproduced many times (you can find lots of reference by searched MREV2 or non-revup collector, or variations of the subject)
