Twin turbo 0-60 1/4 times

Hi, I'm considering buying a used G35 and twin turboing it, but I haven't found consistent data for 0-60 1/4 for a typical twin turbo 18G garrett at 8-10 psi making ~450 bhp.

Most people at this moderate boost got about 0-60 times of 4.6 seconds and mid 12's, down from the stock 5.5, and 13's.

This begs the question which car i should buy, the g35 or the 335i (my other choice). with a simple chip the 335i can make over 400hp and achieve 0-60 of low 4's, some ppl even broke 4 secs.

With the cost of twin turboing a g35, 6-8k+, is there a justification in terms of performance to choose the g35? What numbers are you guys getting at what boost? Any information/suggestions would be appreciated!

0-60 is only a good test for car and driver.... 60 ft is a much better test

335i. Stock boosted and you could chip it through the dealer and be under warranty.

Be really careful with those 335i claims, Especially if they are using those onboard POS things.

I've caught people claiming high 3 second 0-60s when the accelerometer being used didn't start till 19mph

If you are not just a troll looking to stir up animosity...

There are pros and cons to both cars.

If you want to have the enjoyment of building your own boosted car, and having something very unique, go with the G35.

If you want the convenience of having an OEM boosted car, go with the 335i.

Both cars look good, although I'm sure that most on this board will agree with me that G's look better

Aftermarket parts and service are probably easier to find, and cheaper with the G than the bimmer.

You can make either car as fast as you want. If you have the money.

I'm boosted with the Vortech SC at 9psi. I recently got one of those G-timer accelerometers for fun, and ran a 4.69 0-60 with 3 friends in the car. I'm also a terrible driver, and the road was not great. I bet a good driver with no friends in the car could shave a good chunk off that time.

The G-timer may not be super accurate, but it is consistent, so you can at least see how each run compares to the others. We put it in my buddy's '06 TL with intake and exhaust his 0-60 times were in the low 8 seconds.

Quarter mile times are more important than zero to sixty. Specifically, trap speeds are the true measurement of a car's power. If 0 to 60 times are important to you, then start with an AWD platform.

See this thread for validated 1/4 times for FI G35s:

I think the 335i is better- straight up.

As long as you turn off that god damn on board computer. IT's so intrusive

u better look into a better loan if u think u r goin to get a reliable TT kit with fuel, gauges, ems, exhaust for 6 to 8k. not to mention all the other money to get the kit installed etc....
if u have the choice, buy a car that's boosted from the factory. that way u won't be walkin on egg shells (well until u build your motor anyhow)

+1000

I've seen those posts before too. "0-60 in 3.2 s and 1/4 in 11.3 s....according to my iPhone". That's like claiming you could win the superbowl because you're undefeated in Madden.

The argument was that for these cars having 400whp they are slow down the track compared to other cars of the same weight and power. This was years ago... that's all I can say, lol.

There are probably various reasons for this. One thing I noticed, we typically tend to run stiffer suspensions with our Z's and G's in comparison to other cars being used for drag racing. Thus, there is not as much weight shift to the back wheels.

Also, we somewhat limited to the width of our rear tires. I squeezed 305's in there by rolling the fenders, but it sure would be nice to be able to fit some 375's.

Finally, we have relatively small motors. The way we get high HP is usually through Turbo charging. We just don't have the low RPM torque of a big V-8 to help us launch off of the line like some other cars.

For example, look at the jump this guy get's on Injected Performance's Z, but he pulled the front wheels to far off of the ground and had to back out.:
