Who runs hood struts with their Carbon Fiber hood?

I have a set of older version NRG Carbon fiber hood struts/shocks but am taking my time finding mounting points on my VIS slayer carbon fiber hood. These hoods are not true carbon fiber, as the supporting frame is fiber glass with carbon laid over it.

The fiberglass underneath can handle one hood shock, but where have people mounted them? Please post pics.

Please don't ask me to "search" or "search noob" because I have been on this forum for about 6 years now, created plenty of custom one off parts for the G35 and drift cars (at work), and have searched.

I assume you mean the just cf looking NRG hood struts, if so you might want to check on using them with cf hoods. I know for at least other applications people have to use struts that are designed for cf/fg hoods and I believe they are just not full strength. Not really sure about this, I just vaguely remember seeing something about this a long time ago but just wanted to give you a heads up.

Thanks, I am aware of the "lower weight" shocks that are avaliable. I think I'll drop by NRG, they are local and are really helpful and nice people to work with.

Let us know.

Some recommend to go with the cf specifc shocks to be used with cf hoods, others recommend using the regular shocks since the oem hoods are light so there is no issue with using it for cf hoods, and additionaly you wouldnt run into weak valving from the cf specific shocks.

I have a TS cf ood and would like to add a set, but I'm afraid I'll crack the paint if I use the regular shocks.

Thanks

You have to use the CF hood dampers for the CF hoods. The regular NRG dampers are too stiff and will crack your CF hood. This does bring up a good question for those who have a CF trunk installed. I have never seen anyone be able to use the OEM trunk dampers without the CF trunk sticking up so most folks simply remove them alltogether and deal with the trunk potentially shutting on them if a slight breeze blows. Does anyone know if they make aftermarket trunk dampers that will work with CF trunks?

^ That is a good question. I know a few people on here with CF hoods that run regular dampers fine.

That's good to know. So running just one OEM trunk shock doesn't cause the side it's installed on to want to "lift up" from the body when closed?

I personally run my trunk without the blocking brackets and without struts, kinda nice to be able to open it far enough that it flips parallel to the rear window.
