Question Tint Question (pics)

Like the title says, I'm looking for advice on Suntek ceramic tint. I'd appreciate it if anyone has praises or horror stories about this product. I was quoted for $189 while another shop wanted $399 for ceramic. So I'm left confused on why the price discrepancy is so large. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know about Suntek. Huper Optik is considered the best, and the higher quote would fit.

Some people consider ceramic tint to be used in Navigation cars because they say that the metallic tint throws off the navi.

I think it's a marketing scheme.

Ceramic tint is mainly used in blocking infrared rays (heat). So if you're in the south, you'd want that. You can go into any tint shop that carries ceramic tint, chances are, they'll have a demo for you to see/feel the difference between ceramic and non ceramic.

I heard from someone with ceramic tint that even though there's no metal in ceramic tint, it can also affect your navi or AM radio since it's thicker than ordinary tint.

I finally decided to get the Huper Optik ceramic tint for $399. I figure there's no way my black leather will last in this Texas heat unless I get it.

I have Suntek Metallic tint. The owner of the shop was cool, and we chatted for a long while, since I was the last customer, and I was inquiring about residential tint as well. But anways, I remember him saying the the metallic tint still had very good infrared blocking. It was over 90%, but I can't remember the exact number.

The $189 quote is definately for the metallic, not the ceramic. The ceramic is much more.

Unless you have some need to go ceramic or you have the cash to burn, I don't see the point. I've run metallic tints in all my cars, and some of them have been running them for close to 10 years now, and they are still going strong. And the Navi and AM radio works fine in all my cars, despite the tint.

Even the shop owner told me that there was really no need for me to go ceramic. But, of course, YMMV.

My black leather did just fine in the 117 degree heat last summer. Personally, I think most of the heat enters your car through the front windshield.... I think you'll get better results by using a reflective sunshade on the windshield, then going ceramic on your other windows. But hey, I'm not here to tell you what to do, I'm just stating my opinion.

You sure it's not 90% UV rays? I think regular metallic only blocks 40-50% IR where ceramic blocks 85% for a 30% light transmission tint. Regardless, I've read enough about Huper Optik on this forum to shed $400. Just got the car back a few hours ago. It doesn't look very impressive but I'll give it a week to settle in. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow and some more after it sets in. Thanks for the comments.

Ceramic blocks more heat with a lighter visible tint. Essentially that's the difference.
If you want that really dark look, you probably will not like it as much, but it works great to keep the interior cool.

Update on my tint plus question

So here are some pics of my tint, but looking at the last picture, you can tell there are air bubbles. There are also tons of air bubbles on the side windows. The tinter is a reputable one and says that it takes 4-7 weeks for the bubbles to work themselves out. They also said since this is ceramic tint, it is a thick tint which means bubbles are expected. I'm thinking about waiting 4-5 weeks and see if the bubbles go away, just wondering if any of you can verify this is how new tint is suppose to look like. Thanks!
