Just a short update on my situation:
I took GR8TG35's recomendation and contacted . Met up with one of their techs, and he did the whole thing in under 2 hours. Because the wheel was scratched to $hit, the tire had to be take off. But the work came out great. I don't know whether the finish will deteriorate with age, but right now it's practically impossible to tell, even up close, that the wheel has been worked on. The price was $125.
Many thanks to GR8TG35 for great advice.
