Door guard molding peeling off...

Hi all,

The door guard molding on my car started peeling off at the end (circled in green).

I still have 3 more days of warranty (expires 12/24/08) but I doubt I'll bring it back to dealer for some glue. Anyone know of what kinda of glue I can buy to stick it back on?

Thanks...

Hmmm...is double side tape strong enough? I would say about 1.5 inches at the end is coming off.

Im pretty sure just clean the area with rubbing alcohol and go with 3m double sided tape and that should do it...

if youre going to keep it, i'd take the whole piece off, clean and then reattach it. btw, i think double sided tape isn't the best option, it'll make that trim piece stick out more than the others.

Go to an auto store and buy the 3M automotive molding tape (aka double sided tape) It is what's used to attach trim pieces...etc.

Thanks G35papa. That's the answer I was looking for. Did a quick search on the web and seems like this is what you are talking about.

Will pick it up next time I swing by an auto store. You the man!

Not a bad idea. Any chance it would rip some of the paint off the door?

Pretty sure I read that the sedan has holes under the strip unlike the coupes.

No problem Mikeee.

If you decide to remove it, be ready to take it to a body shop to have the holes filled. There are two guide holes on each door

Oh...definitely not doing that for sure. The moldings doesn't bother me and it does take in some minor hit.

So I wanted to peel a little of the molding out today and apply the 3m double side tape but as I remove the molding it started peeling off little by little so I ended up just peeling the whole damn thing off.

Found out there were 4 holes under the molding tape with 4 plastic clips (one of mines were missing). I backed my car onto a chunk of ice one year in a snow storm and scrape the door thus it was re-painted, which explains why one of the clips are missing. Anyway, I can't get what those plastic clips does and if I would to put the molding back in, the plastic clips just kinda push the molding out leaving a bigger gap. Either my plastic clips were all messed up or something so I ended up yanking it out and took the clips off. Applied the 3m tape (it actually sticks out a little bit more than the oem molding) but it's alrite, didn't bother me. Now it's bonded on and seems pretty tight. Hopefully it won't fall off, if it does then I probably need to get a new molding strip with all the original 4 clips.

The holes/clips are just guides so the molding goes on straight. I guess they had people that could see straight when they did the coupes since those don't have the holes/guides under the molding
