brake rotor scraping sound

can't find much info on similar problem so here it goes, lately i've been starting to hear what i think are my rotors when i press the brakes, i hear a scraping/rubbing sound, it is louder at first when i wash the car and the rotors get rusty right away (i don't know if anybody every noticed that on their car but that's what happens to mine every car wash) goes away after a while but its still a rubbing sound, its not squealing i fixed that after replacing my front pads 10k (km not miles ago) rotors look and feel alright, i don't think they're warped, i do get a lot of brake dust, is it possible there's loose brake dust stuck between the brake pad and the rotor and it stays there and that's what making that sound, or is it the OEM brake pads that just get noisy after a couple of kms?

sounds like your pads are gone. the squealing may be the 'crickets' on the brake pads - it's the small metal tabs that contact the rotor when your pad is almost gone.

The OEM pads suck so when you do a brake job, do an upgrade. Hawk pads seem to be the way to go. I grabbed some ceramic/low dust pads from the Autozone b/c I couldn't wait on shipping for the Hawk pads. Just the reduced dust makes it worth the extra money.

hmm i better take a look at the pads from i did hear that they go pretty fast but 10 kilos? that cricket sound would be constant if the pads were worn wouldn't it? i only hear rubbing when i hit the brakes

The cricket sound usually is a signal that the pads are going: sometimes you get the sound when you turn the wheel but mostly when you hit the brakes. Run you fingers across the rotor very slowly to make sure there aren't any grooves. The OEM pads and rotor go fast, so do get an upgrade. I bought Akebono's from Tirerack for all 4 tires. Very low dust, low noise, quick and smooth stopping-- great all around break pads for the price. I also got Nissan rotors (better than the Infiniti ones) but you can get aftermarkets that are descent if that's needed.

This is the 1st place to look-- if it's not here, write back and we'll explore other options. Good Luck!

thanks guys, i'll take a look at the pads next weekend, i hate the brakedust the OEM pads create, but i'd rather have dust then squealing, can i use the OEM anti squeal shims on aftermarket pads? i guess i'd go with the hawks cuz i see most guys use these on our cars, is there a specific type of the hawks i should get or is there only one kind the ceramic kind for the G?

Yes you can use the shims on most aftermarket pads.

Yes I get a slight rust coating when I wash. The rotors are IRON after all. And you can go with low dust aftermarket pads but you WILL lose brake performance (at least cold 60-0 performance with I consider important). OEM pads dust like crazy but it's what you have to do to get the world class brake performance.

The squeak is probably the pad "ears" vibrating back and forth on their pad holders. These areas get real dirty with the oem pads. I recommend cleaning the calipers very well and applying a light coating of high temp grease to the pad ears and where the ride on (BUT NOT ON THE PAD SURFACE OF COURSE !! lol)

Probably not better for cold intial 60-0 stopping power. They might have better performance at high temps vs stock. Depends on what pads you bought and your definition of "overall"

well i decided to check the brakes today, took the pads out and cleaned them along with the calipers, clips and what have you not, the rubbing sound is there even when i turn the wheel when its lifted u hear it rub, the cleaning did help a little, so its either the rotors that need to be replaced or the OEM pads go noisy after a while, good thing the pads don't look worn at all for 10kilos so i'm happy about that

I think it is the corrosion build up on the top of the rotors and it scraps the inner sides of the caliper, I had the same problem. You can either get new rotors that have a better zine coating on them to stop from corrosion or just get a brake service done and the shop will clean the caliper.
