Anyone have eBay black headlights with aftermarket HID?

I recently purchased and installed the black ebay halogen headlights and looking to install an aftermarket HID kit. If you currently have this set up, what did you purchase and how did you install? Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks!

Essentially, you bake the aftermarket black housing and take the lense and black shroud off of the light fixture. Reassemble on your HID fixture *make sure its super clean before you reseal the housing*

You can also adapt your black housing to mount the HID bulb/ballast, but its a little more of a pita.

^The ebay lenses don't fit the OEM housings very well.
Also, using OEM HIDs is not what the OP asked about. He asked about using eBay headlights with *aftermarket* HID.

MyGI$Gansta did this, I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

You're right, but I am willing to bet aftermarket HID/ OEM HID is very similar, given that the aftermarket HID is a reflector setup and not a more complicated projector.

I had an h1 aftermarket kit that was installed by the PO on my 03 halogen lamps. I'm wondering if I could do the same with the JDM headlights.

I've heard good stuff about the HID kits from this place:

Possibly. the OEM HID and the Black Halogen housings are identical with exception of the upper light fixture (OEM HID) mounts are a little different. Assuming the aftermarket HID kit would be installed on an OEM Halogen setup (100% identical to Ebay black) I would say that it would be interchangeable.

Excellent, thank you!

Here is my next issue. The wiring. When I started connecting the aftermarket ballast, I realized that I may need a special wiring harness to include the ballast with the rest of the ebay headlight set up. It seems like the PO had spliced the ballast wires into the OEM halogen headlight adapter somehow. I searched for wiring harnesses, but the connectors I keep finding dont look like the ones I want. So how can I connect an aftermarket ballast to the ebay headlights? I'll post pictures today of the old set up which might help.

After doing some more research, I think I may have to wire the h1 wires to the stock headlight adapter. Any input?

http://rupromenergo.ru/forums/g35-sed...lights-14.html

i also have done ebay headlights(halogen) with aftermarket HID(h1).
my car came stock with HID's. the ebay headlights plug into stock cars harness..you will need to splice in the supplied HID harness after your cars harness and before ebay headlight harness. very easy...2 wires on each side.

a multi meter or test light can help finding (+) and (-) wires.

hope this helps.

It's not.

Reflectors are different due to different focal points of a tungten wire vs arc tube discharge. Glare shields are different and most if not all aftermarket HID bulbs are not painted on the top half like an OEM D2R is to cut down on glare above the cutoff line.

I've had the pleasure of having a few 03's with aftermarket HID's drive behind me....they defintely glare more than the OEM setup.

+1 if it was me and you dont have factory hid i would do a retrofit. There will be tons of people saying there isnt that much glare with aftermarket hids and regular halogen reflectors but there will be. I would be safe and put a projector in there. Creates a ton more light

I had my OEM Halogens with aftermarket HID, and it glares without a doubt. Unfortunately, it's the only cost-effective alternative to retrofitting. Quite honestly, the glare isn't as bad as others I've seen on the road. The only draw back to the driver is the loss of the high-beam.
