DIY: halogen to HID conversion (ebay lights)

So i decided i wanted to have a a brand new set of black headlights along with new, clear, lenses. So instead of just having my headlights restored i bought the "JDM" black ones from ebay. Knowing i have factory HIDs and that these were halogen lamps i knew it would be interesting to install, but i like challenges, and being different... so here we go

tools needed:
10mm socket
various extensions
longest phillips head screwdriver you can find
for these particular headlights the low beam ( top bulb ) is an h1 so you will need to order a pair of H1 HID bulbs along with the adapter harness

first off heres a link to the seller, if you call them and let them know you have factory hids they will send you some adapter plugs, see pic below:

adapter plugs:

first off remove your headlights, im sure everyone knows how by now, if not there is a DIY:

next, locate all the wiring on the underside of the light, you are going to be removing this as a complete harness from the light:

Size: 104.1 KB

next bake your headlights to remove the lens. there are various ways to do it but i baked mine for 5 minutes on 250:

now here is the trickiest part, and where the longest phillips head screw driver you can find comes in to play: there is an igniter box tucked away in the top of the headlight that you have to remove. there are two screws that you can only get to from the front of there headlight after you have separated the lens and housing. i didnt get pics but if you decide to do this youll know what im talking about.

here is the harness separated from the light minus the ballast and igniter:

now all ya gotta do is mount the ballast, plug everything up as well as put all the bulbs in place and then tuck away the igniter, and adapter harness inside the housing. also to clean things up use a 3/4 in step drill bit and drill out the back of the bulb cover and use the existing gromet on the harness to cleanly run all your wiring into the housing;

make sure to connect the gray wire from the igniter harness to the prong on the inside of the housing

then reinstall them:

i hope this helps someone, and sorry if its in the wrong section but it does primarily pertain to sedan owners

appparently you didnt read... but i do have factory HIDs i just put them in a halogen housing..... and no i will not be glaring, the internal part of the bulb housing is constructed the same on the inside on both the HID headlight and the halogen....... i did this because the only aftermarket replacement light that is made for the sedans are halogen housing only, and instead of getting my lenses restored and painting the internal bezels black i just bought these, and took all of my factory HID wiring and whatnot and converted the halogen type headlamp to an HID headlamp.......and not all sedans have HIDs stock they didnt offer the HID package til midway through 03 production

Don't let the haters get to you. If you don't have haters, "YerDewinItWrong!".

Nice writeup.

For the rest of you schmucks, try doing some reading/research before you go bashing.

what bulbs are you using? Look bluer/greener than OEM (could be daytime lighting)

Sorry, you're wrong! the halogen & xenon reflectors ARE different! You should have just swapped out the front lenses from you're ebay lights onto your current factory lights. I guess you wanted the blacked out look though...in that case, you should have just swapped out the blacked out bezels from your ebay lights and put them on your factory ones along with the new lenses. Screensavers is right though, you're gonna be glaring everyone with that kit in a halogen setup.

Take a picture on a flat wall with your lights on, your car should be 10-15 feet away.

Here is a picture of my car with the OEM bulbs and OEM cut off
