I purchased it and I think I wasted my money. Chances of damaging tires with a 55 profile are slim. I will probably put on aftermarket wheels which will make the tire and wheel plan an even bigger waste.

well i guess im bringing back a old thread but its worth the extra read. My G is now alittle over a year and with 16k miles and my rear tires are almost bald. i Nearly fishtaled into another car today and really need to figure this tire issue out. I bought the tire protection plan and deff need new tires, so i guess its nail time for me aswell. I do have to find the paperwork on the car inorder to find out the details. ANyone have theres handy, and knows if its a prorated price for new tires, or just straight up new ones.

When was the last time you totally trashed a factory wheel? And even if you did, more than likely it would be the result of an accident, which would be covered by your insurance.

Yes, you may get a flat, but flat repairs are relatively cheap and can be done at any tire retailer. If the tire needs to be replaced, you can get a new tire including mounting and balancing for around $250 - $275 - which is still less than the $400 they are charging for this 'so-called' Tire and Protection Package"! Also, you need to read the fine print to see if when they replace a tire that it is not prorated based on tread wear. Note that if you have the Tire and Wheel Package, these are summer tires anyway which will probably not last more than 18 months, depending on your mileage.
Bottom line, this is nothing more than the dealer attempting to make additional (100%) profit off of your purchase. Sure, the people that purchased this package (and others as well) have filed claims, and are taken care of without question. But I am willing to bet that the percentage of people that never have any problems and have paid "$400 a pop" for this protection is far greater than those that have benefited from the protection. Again, I stress – this is pure profit for the dealer.

As has been stated by others in this thread, this is usually presented by the "Finance Guy (or Gal)" where they feel they have your full undivided attention, and “will make one last ditch effort to “empty your wallet any way they can”. Just think about it – by the time you get to this point, they have already made lot money on the deal. Don’t let them fool you with their “I am giving you a great deal” crap! Or “my Sales Manager is going to be mad when he/she finds out that I gave you this great discount! – Whatever!!)

When I bought my G, I didn't even let the guy finish his pitch - I just said no thank you - I don't want any of your packages. He was not happy, but in the end I had peace of mind!

Regards,
I don't want to debate the pros/cons..for each person a lot of things weigh in to whether this is 'good' or 'bad'. To some, the intangibles of peace of mind, budgetary constraints, whatever may play into more than just the financial aspect.

But when you make this decision for yourself, make sure you have all the facts. Regarding the bolded statement above, the plan would then cover the tires that replaced the stock tires after 18 months so your coverage would follow that. There seems to be some debate on whether it covers aftermarket wheels or not and the pain factor in filing a claim.

So, while there is merit in the argument that this may not be right for you if you amortize the cost and never have a true wheel damage incident, it's not worth it, but make sure you understand that the coverage WILL extend to your new tires if you have to replace the stock ones.

From my infiniti dealership, I read the contract and asked the question, there is no proration of tires. If you have an incident and your tires are within some guideline that they consider 'bald'..it's in the paperwork..I don't know that number, then they will give you a new tire..no proration..but if you are beyond that measurement..you have no coverage..so it's pretty much all or nothing.

If I drive over a nail and get a flat tire, they'll replace the tire with the same premium sports tire free of charge. Is this a good deal? I was told by my friend that the cost of replacing a tire is more than 400..... and I should buy it, and in 3 years, just, umm.. accidentally driver over some ..nails....scattered on the road...

But in al seirousness, what do you think about this package? Thanks!
i got this plan from sewell dallas as well, they said its actually through GM so you can go to any GM dealership as well as Sewell to get it replaced, but i think i would feel weird going into a GM dealership with the G

Guess what happened to me last week:

http://rupromenergo.ru/forums/g35-sedan-v36-2007-08/221166-pissed-off-infiniti-bridgestone.html

If I were you, I would sign for the plan without thinking much about it!

But make sure it includes a clause that guarantees the availability of the replacement tire!

Good if you need it, bad if you don't.

Bottom line, though? TOTAL RIPOFF for the price!!!

To cover your tires for a road hazard warranty is only about $4 per tire at ANY tire shop.

Wheels? Unless you drive like a dummy, it's highly unlikely you'll destroy a wheel. But, if you do drive like a dummy, buy the plan I guess.

In 12 years of driving, I've never had a tire blow from the side, and never destroyed a wheel. That's what they're betting on when they take your money.
