Well, I drove my car for about 5 months while I was trying to figure it out and fix it myself. Then I had no choice but to give in and take it to the dealer because I was up for state inspections. Regardless, the only issue you will run into is not passing inspection I would assume. My car "seemed" to be running great but after getting it back and driving it, it was completely different and felt more like a restored engine. I would maybe check with a independent repair shop and see if they can do it for less than the $1500 that I paid to the dealership. Hope you find a resolution!

Rahul-my local shop doesn't feel comfortable ripping into it without knowing the exact problem. What did your dealer replace for the $1,500? Just that gasket ? Did they say the gasket was destroyed? thx!

Red,
The best way to find out if it is the gasket that is blown out is to have them check the oil pressure, (remove the sensor and hook up the pressure test) to see if it is low. If it is low then you will have to have it torn apart to replace the gasket. In my case they did do the test and checked it 2 times before confirming the low pressure. They pretty much replaced all the internal gaskets which i believe was only 2 of them and then all the O-rings for the solinoids. Most of the charge was for labor which they say was 9.2 hours. Also, the gasket was destroyed and they showed me the pieces of it because I wanted to see for myself.

so i'm getting just the p0011 code and not the other code that comes with this common problem, anyone know of this? i've got an 03 g35 coupe w/ 71k miles on it, i've reset my ecu, checked codes and cleared then they came back on my second start up, now i heard its common for the p0011 code to come up with the p0021 code but like i said i have only the p0011 code

p0011 might just be a camshaft/crankshaft sensor. I know p0011/p0021 tend to come up on the 07 and up VQ motors.

Ok I'll replace those two sensors and see if it works, now I did some research and found that if that doesn't work than I have to open up my timing chain cover and look at my sprockets cause that could be damaged or clogged, any truth to that?

On the 03-06 sedans and 03-07 coupes the p0011/0021 has nothing to do with cam and crank sensors so please don't waste the money. The p0011/0021 codes are for intake valve timing control. If it is not low on oil then the intake valve timing solenoids need to be replaced. There is one at the front of each valve cover with 3 bolts holding it on each side. Passenger side has a green connector and i think the driver side is a black connector. This will fix these 2 codes. The HR motor is a whole different design. Pm me if you need to.

2008 G35 (v36 vq35hr)

Ok so I have had these codes now for a while. I can reset the computer and sometimes SES stays off for a week, sometimes an hour.

Is there a way to diagnose for sure that it isnt a sensor or solenoid? How low is "low" for oil pressure?

How complicated is replacing the gaskets? Is there a service manual or tech guide that gives step by step instructions for this repair? Having the dealership replace is out of the question... Their prices for repairs are INSANE. Could a regular mech. Do it if I gave him the gaskets?

Thanks guys

Parts are probably the cheap part of this. This is a bigger job than I would tackle myself. I'm sure an independent shop could easily handle this. I haven't seen a writeup.

Infinitidude said this in earlier posting----> "Warranty time is 12.5 hrs. because they want you to replace the whole rear cover which comes with the gaskets, but I think you can get the gaskets separately now. They can be changed without having to remove the entire rear cover. The only thing you will need to remove is the main timing chain. The 2 small chains do not have to be removed. I can do this job in about 7 hrs. give or take."

Gaskets

Ok, so see attached image. It looks like there may be 2 gaskets (1 under both of these metal plates)? If so, do both of them usually go bad?

I ordered parts 13530-JK20B or 13533-JK21A and they came in the mail today. One looks like the larger gasket for the top, and the other part is just a metal cover that looks like it would fit on the bottom. Basically, I just want to make sure I have all the parts I need before I tear my engine apart.

Infinitidude, is it just the 1 gasket that potentially needs replacing?

Had no choice..brought in my G to the dealer to diagnose my check engine light. Ended up failing oil pressure test. They didnt mention the code that it threw but needed to get gaskets replaced. Cost to replace ~$1635. Parts were about ~$100 and the rest labor..Expensive fix

Now i get to drive around a q50 as a loaner for a few days.

I have a 2008 Infiniti G35X w approx 106k miles. Check engine light - trouble codes P0011& P0732.

Read all posts in this thread.

Got codes from auto zone. P001 is intake valve timing (IVT). Possible cause - crankshaft position sensor failure? Brought to dealer. They want to inspect the intake sprockets, min fee of $475 labor. If sprockets need replacing, $3,500 ??? Wow. I am original owner, don't neglect or beat on car. Oil changes anywhere b/w 3,500-7000 miles. Had dealer change oil/filter, but code came back in 1 day.

From the posts in this thread, it sounds like the P0011 code is the gasket on the rear cover, and not the sprockets. Still an expensive repair.

Code P072 is 2nd gear function- shift solenoid.
Probable causes (per autozone code printout):
- low fluid level
- shift solenoid mechanical fault
- hydraulic circuit fault
- transmission failure

Dealer stated it could be a valve body solenoid failure ($1,500!!). They suggested To drop the pan to see if any metal shavings in the fluid, sign of damage. No foreign material found. Are the solenoids external or internal to transmission? easy to replace?

Engine light stayed off for a few days, then came back on. Same trouble codes per autozone.

Only symptom I notice is occasionally at startup, rpm's drop donw and feels like car will stall. This actually happened about 2-3 times in past month. Once started, ok, except occasionally at red light rpm's will fluctuate up & down.

Any ideas on the P0732 code ? Can I be doing more damage by driving car under these conditions?

Thanks!
Dave

If you are going as far as tearing the entire front of the engine apart to replace I would highly recommend replacing both gaskets even if the other one isnt damaged. The problem is that the original gaskets are made of a paper material. I think now that the gaskets are available separately they have been updated and have metal indide the gasket to help eliminate this from happening a second time.

You will have to purchase the entire rear cover in order to get these gaskets at this time.
Do these codes turn on CEL ?
