There is a basic problem comparing the visual and technological impact of when the first G35 came out versus the introduction and impact of the G37. For one thing, the first G35 was really quite remarkable and different compared to what was available at the time. It was pretty much unique in type (sport/luxury coupe) and, especially shape. Since it was introduced, the G35 is readily identifiable and not confused with other cars.

On the other hand, the G37 is meant to me an evolution of the design, not an entirely new unique offering. So to say it does not have the same impact as when the G35 was introduced should not really be viewed as a shortcoming.

^^The new G has no shortcomings with me so far and it was the outgoing G35 coupe that got me here in the first place. If I didn't have so much respect for that car I wouldn't be here to begin with.

Now that I'm here and have driven the new G, I'm a happy guy.

After seeing it in person I have the following opinions:

The rear is ok, it could be less bulbous like the G35 but it actually followed the concept pretty well. The profile view is actually nice but I think the character line from the front fender to the rear should be more pronounced to make the car look less slab sided. Same goes for the crease at the bottom, a few extra inches higher and a little bit more aggressive sweap would make the entire side much nicer looking.

The front is what I don't like. The grill is too big, if infiniti had kept the ratio of the headlight size to grill approximately same as that on the concept the front would look sharper and more sporty. Combined with the sport bumper and the grill the headlights look too small and the whole front looks too wide and bulky and takes away heavily from the otherwise sleeker look of the new flowing body design.

Specifically, I don't like the sport bumper one bit. Infiniti almost had a trademark look up to this point with the two opening bumper that adorns all their sedans and G35 coupes. This new bumper does not look any better and does not flow with the otherwise improved lines on the car. The Sedan's front actually looks better to me in its design. The concept's bumper might not look different than the G35 by much but that design is much better for the new coupe since it is narrower.

I'd have to check out a none sport model's bumper for comparison sometime. I suspect I'd like that more traditional bumper better.

The interior is not bad at all. I like the dash and center stack designs. The rear seat design is simplistic and not notable. The trunk space is really pathetic for a coupe of this size, but I guess you can't have everything in a coupe.

It is a big coupe with alot of presence, but it does not give a sense of sportiness that a "sport" model G37 should have.

The G37 Coupe's enhanced platform and chassis also includes an available advanced 4-Wheel Active Steer system (4WAS), which helps improve vehicle handling performance by adjusting both the front steering gear ratios and the rear suspension geometry according to steering input and vehicle speed. Braking and handling is targeted to be among the best in the luxury sport coupe class.

I have a 2004 G35 Coupe, and my mom has a 2009 G37 Sedan. Personally, I like my interior better than I like hers. Mine feels more cozy, like it surrounds you better. And I can't stand the blue gauges at night. I love the orange color when I am driving at night. Just feels homey.
