What kind of spray paint to paint grille?

I am just wondering as I have decided to do it myself.

What kind of primer to use? for plastic or for metal?

What kind of paint to use? for plastic or for metal?

I am asking since the grille is chromed, i don't know if it is metal or plastic

Oh ya, I want to paint the back emblems black too, anyone experienced chipping if you spray paint it?

thanks!

Heck, Pep Boys would have everything you need... I would get a adhesion promoter, Either Krylon, or Dupli Color primer and paints... I prefere Krylon to Dupli Color personally though...

Also get some clear coat for extra protection against chipping... 3 coats of clear is all you really need but I go with 6-8 coats of clear for greater depth and more protection.

The grill is plastic, I painted mine with spray primer and Rustoleum black pearl and then sprayed some high temp spray clear over that. The only reason why I used high temp clear is that I have seen some regular clears turn yellow just from the heat of sunlight. You will want to take the emblem of the grill and paint it seperate. I didn't the first time I painted mine and it started to chip around the edges. I do have to repaint mine about every 6 months or so due to stone chips but it is very easy. Hope this helps.

you will need UV resistant clear coat. It's not the heat that turns it yellow.

Painted grille.............?

I guess that would be the easy way to change the color of your grille but
in six months time you'll have it out redoing the job again. I've painted
grilles on several of my cars, and it looks great after you finish. But the
best way to accomplish this task is to have it powder coated because the
grille is subjected to constant pitting from sand and rocks.
