Thumbs up Takata harness w/ stock seats.

I want to put either a 4 or 5 point harness in my coupe, however i don't want to get new seats, (adjust ability since i do a lot of driving is why, plus the seat warmers)

So, is is possible to install a harness w/ the stock seats?
Anyone have it done?
Anyone have pictures?
Can anyone help me out with this?

Well lets see where this goes! Thanks guys!

Found a step by step guide

i was searching Takata's site to answer my above question and found this installation guide. So yea it can be don with the stock seats but you will lose the ability to have passengers sitting behind the seats with the harness mounted.

Heres a link to the step by step guide:

Yes, you can mount a 5 point harness and still have the 3 point DOT belts functional. I spent last summer running over 24 hours of NASA HPDEs with this set-up. HOWEVER...new regulations, out this year, require "Racing Seats" if you want to use a racing harness. Also, you can no longer get away with anchoring the shoulder belts to the back seat DOT belt mounting points. The down angle is greater than allowed (no more than 20 degrees) This spring I had a 1.75" steel tube bar installed between the B pillars for the shoulder belt anchors, and bought a set of Recaros. I expect the car to be considerably faster in light of the major weight reduction in my wallet.

Get the Schroth racing harness. Only DOT approved, since this sounds like a daily driver more than a track car. and go 4 point. A 5 would be a pain with stock seats or even racing seats not designed for a 5 point.

don't do it it's dangerous. by having the belt wrap around the seat and tie back down to the floor you could cause serious back injury. what happens is that in an accident as your body continues to travel in a forward direction the belt will stop you BUT as tension increases it is also pulling your shoulders down which compresses your back. The safe and proper way to do it is to have it tie into a horizontal brace up high.

Having it on the mounts in the back seat are fine (in 95% of cases) It's when people have them go straight down the back of the seat that things become issues in an accident. I still say get the Schroth racing harness. Only DOT and if you get in an accident of the street and have harness X on you are not wearing a seatbelt in the eyes of the law. (i know some on here aren't the most law conscious, but it's true) The Schroth are also pretty cheep. $160 for one. I think sparco are 250 for a full 4 point.

I may get some of those in the near future.

FYI I have no affiliation with schroth racing. Just like the price and idea of DOT approval.

I hope you put a roll cage if u install a harness. If you roll the car and the roof caves in your body will stay sitting straight up instead of being pushed to the side away from the roof.

Did the Rallye-4 install yesterday on my 06 coupe. It took me a few hours, only because you have to remove the front and back seats to get to the OEM bolt on points, and I had never done this. The back seat was a real pain in the *ss, the service manual wasn't very detailed on the removal process. But if I had to do it again, I could now probably get it done in an hour. I also had to delete the washers on the rear OEM bolts due to 1/8 " to short with all the hardware (OEM belt and Schroth tails straps). Anyway, went out on a agressive drive in the hills, and WOW what a difference !! No more sliding around on the curves and hitting the sunroof on the bumps. I just ordered the shoulder pads mostly for looks. I highly recommend this set-up for daily driver / weekend fun up in the hills.

Good info, thanks.

I'm going with a pair of Schroth harnesses soon because HPDE races require DOT stuff. I was going to get Sparco but they are not DOT.
