Exclamation Changing Ballast (accesible w/o removing headlight)...

Quick question...

I've narrowed down the fact that my stupid passenger side ballast is out and bought one on eBay to replace. However, I'd like to avoid having to drop my bumper and take out my whole headlight assembly if I can access the ballast just by going underneath. Can anyone confirm that this is possible from underneath the car?

Thanks in advance...!

im changing my ballast also . il post pics as soon as i get it in ..

if im not mistaken you can get to it . but you do have to take off the bottom shield.

screws holding it were facing down so it might be difficult to unscrew ..

this is on my 03.5 sedan ..

wait what year ? sedan or coupe ??

some ballasts are on the headlight itself ..

prob about the same time spent changing it from underneath vs. pulling the bumper and headlight off

Sweet, let me know. I'm planning on doing either tomorrow or very soon (my headlight has been out for MONTHS).

I used these pictures to get an idea, but I'm hoping you/I can reach it.

http://rupromenergo.ru/forums/body-in...t-upgrade.html

It's for an 05 Sedan, but I'm hoping the ballasts and locations are identical. I'll be dropping the splash plate and wheel wells anyway (which are needed to change the light bulbs anyway, so I'll have decent access considering.

Let me know, I'm anxiously waiting!

To the last poster, I painted my headlights already so I've dropped the bumper and done all that, to me it's a huge PITA and if I can avoid it, then I'll do that for sure.

Thanks and let me know!

best way is to take off the bumper, not complicated just sum screws and tabs thats it.

Ah, didn't know that. I think that mine (on an 05) is connected. I'm hoping so because if that's the case it looks like I can get around dropping the bumper. It's ridiculous how inaccessible the damn headlights are...not to mention changing a headlight is a 30+ min affair. Blah.

removing the bumper is the best way, that way everything is exposed and easier to get to.

Thanks for posting the pictures...I guess I have to take off the wheel wells anyway, so I might as well look and see, although it looks like I'll have to take off the bumper, which is a PITA, but possibly necessary.

Thanks again.

after doing it for the second time...

it literally took me 10 minutes to get the bumper off..

its not hard at all .. i was super nervous id Fack something up ..

no need to take off the wheel wells completely ...

the ballast is held on with 2 philips head screws .. super easy .. .just turn over the headlight housing and its there .. and unplug then replace .. thats it ..

but everything went well ..
i even took the opportunity to change out the driving light to L.E.D's ..

p.s. this is where i got my ballast from ... great seller fast ship ..

****TTT! I got to the ballast fine (on mine it's three bolts, but easily accessible with the wheel well cover out). However the damn ballast isn't working/firing.

What makes it worse is that my driver side has been working this entire time. So I figured I'd swap the ballast (I actually have 2 ballasts to work with just in case and two wiring harnesses (the metal strand and connector to bulb) on the working driver side and no luck. So I put back the ORIGINAL ballast that was working just fine and now the damn bulb isn't working at all...mind you there were absolutely NO issues.

I'm hoping someone has a fix or can help me out as I'm stressed as crap now that I don't have any working headlights for whatever unknown reason.

Is there some trick to making the ballasts work once you unplugged them and reinstalled them?

HELP QUICK! Ahhh!

Ya...ah, what a mess up. Thanks so much for posting on the G35 Sedan thread and all the work/effort you've put into this. The only good thing was that after taking my wheels off and removing the wheel wells, I was easily able to access my ballasts (they're different on the 05s), but then everything went to **** after that point.

Checking fuses behind the battery tomorrow (unfortunately the fuse box in front of the battery isn't for the stupid headlights).
