Mobil 1 0W30 lab analysis

For anyone interested in running this oil I have attached the lab analysis from Blackstone. I was skeptical about this oil after running expensive and hard to find Castrol 0W30 so had it tested, results after 7,140 miles look good at least in my car. I will probably continue to run this 7,500 mile intervals. Does seem to help fuel economy a bit, which is what Mobil claims. Was getting 23-24 mpg w/Castrol 0W30, now avg 25-26 mpg.

NIce,, thankyou for doing this,,, I have run this oil in my car since new, allthough i have never had an analysis done, I trusted it to do its job,,, mainly very cold start temps with some HIGH speed running in the summer....

They have your motor listed as a DE.

They just listed it incorrectly, doesn't have any bearing on the results though.

^ It kinda screws up the Universal Averages.

Btw, The Castrol 0W/30 is slightly thinner then the M1 you are using. So I dont see how you got MPG gain out of one or the other.

It would be the opposite. Any how good results.

I guess if the averages are for a DE motor it would potentially skew the comparison but I didnt see anything alarming.

I read that at 100C the M1 is thinner (10.6 cSt when new) versus 12.1 cSt for the German castrol This is what concerned me about using the M1. After 7140 miles the M1 loses some viscosity and ends up at 9.5 cSt so I would not run for more than 7500 miles. For reference New Mobil 1 0W20 is 8.5 cSt

Anyway, Castrol is a BP product and I refuse to buy BP products anymore due to their massive greed-driven rape of the Gulf Coast.

^ Actually you are correct GC 0W/30 is Castrols Thickest 30W oil. Edge, syntec and GTX are on the thinner side of the 30W scale.

But you should not even see much MPG difference regardless, even if you switch to 5W-20 you might see a 1-2% improvement at least thats what the people are BITOG say.

The mpg increase is just what I saw, I cannot think of any other variables that may have affected it. Driving habits didnt change, commute route didnt change. If others have different experience that would be interesting to know.

BTW I recently put my winter tires on and mpg dropped to around 25-26 mpg. I dont know if this is due to the tires or coincidental seasonal change to winter gas blend, or some combination of both. Was running Conti DW, now with Goodyear Ultragrip GW2.
