Do you have the 18's? If you do the normal tire pressure should be 35 all the way around. If youre runnign at 26, i suggest you drop the keyboard right now and filler up!

yeah.. you need 35s all around.. if you had an 04 the tire pressure monitor probably would have been staring at you for a while now.. then again, tire pressure has to do with weather and blah blah.. you get the point.. jus chek your pressure often

Re: What is normal PSI for Car ??

It is quite normal for low profile/stiff sidewall tires to vary greatly in pressure depending on ambient temperature. You should always check the pressures hot/warm(after a 10 mile drive is good). I know the label and book say cold, but that is to keep you from under-inflating the tire and blaming the manufacturer for any damage caused by such.
Anyway, I run my tires at 33psi warm, which, when I checked them cold on a 12 degree F day they were 25 rear 26 front. I drove to work, about 12 miles, and re-checked the pressures, right on 33psi.

My .02, I learned this stuff based on my experience with racing on DOT tires in SCCA.

Re: What is normal PSI for Car ??

Check the side of your tire..there should be something to the effect...max 33 psi
I have always gone off the side of the tire...every tire varies...

Yes, 35 psi for the stock 18's, but for those of you that have the stock 17's, its 30 psi all around.

Re: What is normal PSI for Car ??

The sidewall of the tire will most likely say max 44 or max 51psi. That's too much air. There should be a sticker in the driver's door (or possibly rear driver's side door on sedans -- this applies to all cars, not just G35's) that lists the recommended pressures for the tires. Personally, I take the recommended pressure as the minimum. My sticker says 30, but I wouldn't go below 32. 35 is better. 38-40 for autocross days (but not for street driving.. it gets a little stiff).

When they get down to 26-28 and below, bad things happen. The tires heat up faster and get too hot, they wear on the outside edges faster, they don't brake as good, they don't handle as good, they have a higher tendency to hydroplane in water.

Re: What is normal PSI for Car ??

Oh my gosh...thanks for the post about the extra psi...I know what can happen if under inflation happens...but I never knew that the tire posted mas psi...I though that was the recommendation...as that's what someone told me many years ago...
oh well.

Re: What is normal PSI for Car ??

Well, many years ago (actually, not too terribly many) most passenger tires posted 35 as their max pressure. Today it's 44 or 51 (depending on the tire) so that it matches with European specs. 35 is still a good number to go by for average use.

For autocross I run mine up to 38-40.. the higher pressure keeps the sidewalls from rolling under when cornering at the limits of the car's abilities. However, I like to let it back down right away, because even with 17's, 40psi is a noticeably rougher ride over bumps and uneven pavement.
