Thumbs up 17ís on a G35 Coupe, Drag Radials

Iím looking to pick up a pair of wheels and drag radials for my 2003 G35 Coupe, Iíd really like to stick with 17ís, primarily because of the much lower cost of tire. Is anyone running 17ís on their coupe, particularly aftermarket 17ís?

What tire and wheel size/offset should I be looking for?
Also, Iíve got Brembo brakes.

Thanks!

i ran a SVT cobra wheel with a bias ply on the rear of mine for a drag wheel and I have brembos. If you are really looking for just drag wheels then stick with a 16" because you can hook up alot better

Thanks for the response but I’m probably going to stick with a 17-inch wheel, it’s been a little easier finding wheels and tires for a reasonable price. Would a 17x9 (35mm offset) wheel be too small for the coupe? And a 225/45R17 tire?

If they are for drag only, do like GreenGoblin suggests and go with a 15/16" rear setup. Cheaper tires and better grip available. Pretty sure you can get them over your brembos in the right offset

a 225 DR isnt going to offer you much for all the money you are spending.

plus that tire is 1.7"-2" smaller than stock. you want a 26 to 28" tire. I'd rethink your plan.

Yeah, I pm'd rpm06g35 and he said the 15's wont clear my Brembo's.

I've just got Injen cold air, PowerLab plenum spacer, HKS Hi-Power Exhaust, and TiTek test pipes. I don't have a whole more planned except for some sort of EMS down the road.

Consider 16X8 90-96 300X rims or 93-95 RX7 wheels. They're both super light (~16lbs each) and the smaller diameter rim will let you fit taller DRs, but still allow to maintain the stock overall diameter. Taller DRs allow more flex and planting ability in the tire.

I got my 15" BFG DRs back recently. They're mounted on 15X7 Mazda Millienia rims that weigh a mere 11lbs each. The entire combo weighs 31lbs. The DRs are 225/50s and are only 24.5" which means they lower the effective rear gear ratio to a 3.55 vs 3.31. They don't do much good with the stock limiter because of the forced shift into 4th, but we'll see how they work with an extended limiter.

slight correction with the 300zx wheels, the 90-96 300ZX rear turbo wheels are 16x8.5 and weight roughly 18-lbs, the fronts are 16x7.5 and they are the ones that weight 16lbs. I had 17x8 mustang wheels I was going to use but once I found out that the 300ZX 16s will clear the rear brembos I decided to use them instead. it just so happened that I had a pair of those as well.

Tires for the 16" sizes are more easily found and cheaper than the 17's.

Also most poeple I talk to, practically everyone, say stay away from the Nitto Drags.

Do they not clear due to the diameter or the lack of clearance due to the spoke design?

there are some strange splines on the inside of the wheel barrel, if you grind those off you can have the calipers clear
